Give a 5 minute group presentation on the most important values of the country you have been studying.  Explain the value, where you think the value came from, and how that value is expressed in your society.

FOR EXAMPLE:

In America we value freedom, that value comes from our founders who were fleeing European oppression, the value is expressed in protections of freedoms in the bill of rights (freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom of assembly, freedom of religion, etc) and in American society the government really does allow its citizens these freedoms, even if it is detrimental to the government.

Presentation due Friday, July 7

Give a 5 minute group presentation on one aspect of politics from the culture you are studying.

Examples:
Who are the leaders?
How do the leaders have power?
What kind of reputation does the government have?
What is the class system like in your country?
What kinds of natural resources does your country have in abundance or lack and what effect does that have on your country?
What kind of government does your country have and how did it get to be that way?
What kinds of government did your country have in the past?
What other countries have occupied and ruled your country?

Presentation due Thursday, July 6

Give a 5 minute group presentation on one aspect of pop culture from the country you are studying.

The ideal beauty
Fashion
An interesting popular subculture
Who are the most famous people?

Final Project Instructions

Due: Friday, July 15th.

Your group will give a presentation to the leaders of the country you have been studying in which you will suggest 3 ways that they can improve the quality of life of the citizens on their country. Each group will have  15 minutes to present. You CAN NOT go over 15 minutes. There will then be 5 minutes for your classmates to ask your group questions about your presentations.

Other rules:
1. Your suggestions should not conflict with any core cultural values.

2. In your presentation you need to demonstrate the need for your suggestions. (In other words... if you tell them to solve a problem you need to give evidence that it is a problem.  Pictures, stories for citizens, charts and graphs from world organizations... etc).

3. You should make an action plan for at least one of your suggestions showing how the leaders can begin to implement your suggestions or show examples of how other cultures have implemented your suggestions.

START ON THIS PROJECT NOW. NOW. NOW.  Do not wait until next Thursday night. You don't have a lot of free time so this project should take you at least a week of preparation and teamwork.

If you have any questions please feel free to ask me. I am here for you!!

Elizabeth

Copied from other blog

Hello my lovely intermediate snowflakes! You are all so precious and lovely. :)

Here is your homework for tonight! (Sorry it is so late!)

First thing tomorrow morning your group will give a 4-5 minute presentation giving general information about your new country.  Don't focus too much on the obvious things (we all know it is hot in Egypt!), instead tell us interesting facts about the people and the culture.  Pictures and SHORT video clips would be a great addition to the presentation. This will be our first taste of what life is like in an exotic land.

I am looking forward to learning all about Egypt, Russia, Papua New Guinea, Japan, and Iran!!!

Your devoted instructor,

Elizabeth

((By the way, you can find me on facebook! Look for Elizabeth Schalchlin. Thanks!)

Conforming

Hello precious little snowflakes!

I'm making this blog because all the other teachers made special blogs and I didn't want to be the uncool kid so I made one, too. See, even I can be a conformist sometimes.
